Solid Gold Limited Edition
Limited to only 30 instruments worldwide, the Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection Solid Gold fountain pen is meticulously crafted and engraved in Italy. It is adorned with intricate, precise engraving on 18 karat Solid Gold complemented by highly polished midnight blue accents. A stunning .25ct brilliant cut diamond representing Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, replaces the traditional Sheaffer® White Dot®. Each pen also features Sheaffer’s exclusive Inlaid Nib in 18 karat gold and a 22 karat gold plate clip, and bears the internationally-renowned hallmark of purity of The Goldsmiths Company from the Assay Office of London.

A Design for the Ages
Every detail of the Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection is specially crafted to pay homage to the beauty and mystery that surrounds the Ancient Egyptian culture.

The superb engraving on the Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection writing instrument begins on the cap with a representation of the constellation Orion the Hunter and the surrounding stars and constellations. Ancient Egyptians associated Orion with Osiris, God of the Underworld.  The wing imagery framing the Orion/Osiris figure represents the wings of Isis, devoted wife and sister of Osiris.

The brilliant diamond replacing the traditional White Dot® in the Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection ornament represents Sirius, star of Isis.  The rising of Sirius above the horizon in the pre-dawn sky signaled the rise of the Nile, and the flooding season upon which all Egyptian agriculture depended.  The annual inundation of the Nile and the rising of Sirius also marked the ancient Egyptian New Year, thus becoming the astronomical foundation for their lunar calendar.

The barrel of the writing instrument showcases a detailed image of a pyramid with an eye symbol above it.  This image combines two classic elements of Egyptian culture – pyramids and the Eye of Horus.  The pyramids of Ancient Egypt are architectural wonders – archaeologists today still do not agree on how they were constructed with such precision and on such a grand scale   Of all the royal pyramids discovered in Egypt, the colossal Great Pyramid at Giza is the most famous and the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to still survive.  The Eye of Horus associated with the falcon god’s right eye represented the Sun and its mirror image, the left eye, “wedjat,” represented the Moon.  Together, the eyes represented the whole universe with its opposite, yet complementary, energies.

The intricate background engraving on the writing instrument includes a geometric pattern as well as some of the Egyptian decans, 36 groups of bright stars along the ecliptic or path of the Sun that were used to create the Egyptian calendar.  These decans served as a reference as to how the ancient Egyptians divided the night sky.  They observed that each decan would rise above the dawn horizon for 10 days every year and used these time intervals to subdivide their lunar calendar of 360 days plus an extra 5 days.

Preserved for Posterity
The Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection Solid Gold writing instrument is packaged in a luxurious wood box that is, itself, a true object of beauty.  It features a glossy blue finish with the series name imprinted in gold on its top. Four engraved 18K gold-plated panels mirroring the Orion/Osiris imagery of the writing instruments are on each side of the box.

The Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection Solid Gold fountain pen box is further enhanced by the inclusion of a custom crystal inkwell. Made in the U.S.A., the inkwell features a vermeil medallion with the Orion/Osiris imagery etched onto its stopper. Countless hours and 20 individual pairs of hands have touched each inkwell, making each one exquisitely unique. Clear crystal is carefully blown and shaped while skilled silversmiths forged the medallion imagery onto vermeil, and then finished and individually fit each piece to the crystal by hand. Each vermeil medallion bears the Assay Office of London hallmark.

Each Solid Gold fountain pen from the Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection is packaged with a soft chamois polishing cloth, a certificate of authenticity, and a commemorative booklet providing further details on the inextricable link between Ancient Egyptian mythology, writing, culture, and the stars. The box includes 2 black and 2 blue ink cartridges, a piston converter, and 1 bottle of Sheaffer® Skrip® ink. Each Sheaffer® Stars of Egypt Limited Edition Collection writing instrument bears the Sheaffer® Limited 3 Year Warranty.
